  1. Great site, I've truly learned alot and have resisted posting but would like to ask a couple of questions about TMPGEnc. When converting a large mpeg1 file to a vcd file it asked about the ratio setting. I always have chosen 4:3 and it works fine and the results are good....could I get even better results using 1:1 or one of the other settings? Second, it asked if the video is interlaced. I have been leaving it on the default setting and it works.....once again could this be a mistake? I'm using an ATI card for capturing. Thanks in advance, Andy

This "ratio" is the aspect ratio of the clip. 4:3 is the aspect ration of TVs (NTSC, don't know about PAL, SECAM, etc) and computer monitors (e.g. 640x480). 16:9 is the aspect ratio of widescreen TVs and of movies in theaters. Changing it willy-nilly will probably result in either fat or skinny people.

In general, if you're playing back on a TV (including through "video-out" from your computer), leave your stuff interlaced. If you're playing only on the computer, you might get better quality by deinterlacing (computer monitors aren't interlaced).

All TV/cable captures and video-tape is interlaced (don't know about DVD)
