I have an old Philips DVD Player. It plays DVD with AVI files including Subtitles - excellent picture but when it has reached about 55/57 minutes it stops playing and returns to the disc menu.

Have tried a number of discs which I have recorded and the same result - so it is not a faulty disc and the results up to when it stops playing are very good.

Here is some more information - not sure if it is relevant .

File was converted from WMV to DIVx and the Resolution,Frame Rate and Bit Rate were kept as original. The output was burnt to DVD and tried both Nero and Easy Burner at a speed of 4X but the same result video stops as above when played in Player but not on PC.

I also played video in DVD Player fast forwarding at a speed of 32X taking just a few minutes and it stopped at same point so it is not Player overheating after a certain time.

    Any ideas ?

    Thank you

    Les

Just a guess: Could it be that the player stops when it reaches the 1 GB mark, or the 2 GB mark, or something?

Well, it still COULD be a faulty disc or several discs. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's certainly not impossible either based on what you said. I advise you against telling us what it's not because if you were a bona fide expert you wouldn't be asking for help. Also doing that kind of "I know it's not this" kind of posting is often indicative of a personality where your mind is already closed and that also doesn't tend to lead to positive outcomes when you want problems solved.

Install MediaInfo on your PC and use it to get the information on some of your problem AVI files and post what it says here. Two of the problem files should be enough. Philips players generally handle AVI files well but there are some limitations and file size could be one of them.

Also, what brand and type of disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, etc.) are your discs that have problems?

I don't where this came from - Your comments are rude - my mind is not closed - I was seeking help and also you are making unfounded assumptions about the poster. I am allowed to make comments about what I find and sure you can say that my observations could be incorrect but to say things about my mind are rude. I still believe discs are ok - it may be a size problem with the file

  5. Believe it or not, he is trying to help you because many situations are a process of elimination.
You might think he is coming across as rude but give benefit of doubt, let him see media info he ask for.

spblack - Rather than answer even one of my questions, you thought it was more productive to get your panties in a wad over what I said. Dude, I work in IT and I solve problems for a living. I see your kind all the time. The fact that you replied specifically to my post and failed to answer even one of my questions tells me all I need to know about you. I'm done here.
