Which I note has not been updated in a few years -- at least not the free version.
Is this still regarded as a viable program alternative to SHRINK ?
Anyone using this under 64-bit Win-7 ? (Successfully, that is.)
Can you update the early HC-Enc & Qu-Enc versions in the install package with much more recent ones, without issues ?

1) Yes. And it's considered to be of higher quality than DVD Shrink. If you want a technical explanation of how Shrink works, look here:

2) Yes.
3) You can update HCenc but do note that you will need to use the current HCenc beta under 64 bit Win 7. If you do a search on Google, etc., on the subject of updating HCenc under DVD-RB you can find out how to do it. I don't remember offhand. I do not use Qu-Enc so I cannot comment on it. -
Thanks for the info. 2008 is a long time for no updates, which makes it seem like all development had ceased, and hence my wondering about this. I had installed DVD-RB into XP and tried to use it only once, many months ago. The job went nearly all the way to completion, before bombing out with some unfamiliar error -- which I probably should have written down. Fast-Forward to now, and I've just installed it into Win 7 x64 (Ultimate), and run it for one job. Seemed pretty basic, and no errors. The result looks fine on the computer, but I'll pop the disc into the Oppo and see how it looks on the big screen. Will look into that HC update procedure. Qu-Enc has been a useful alternative encoder for AVStoDVD (or am I momentarily confused and thinking of CX2D ?), so I think it would be a plus to have it onboard here as well.
[EDIT: Curiously enough, the base HC019 (a circa 2006 version) in the DVD-RB install package worked fine in the above-mentioned test. That would seem to contradict the latest beta being required for use in 64-bit Win 7. I'd also note that there is a later QuEnc alpha -- apparently not publicly released on its own -- that is installed with later versions of AVStoDVD.]Last edited by Seeker47; 21st Sep 2012 at 11:16.
