so my Epson r220 finally give out after many fixes, so i been looking at the Canon IP4950 or EPSON P50, a lot of reviews of the canon state that it produces very dark printed image and smaller inks and the P50 is just too hard to find in stores, so does any one know of any other alternatives on the UK market for disc printing.

Just a update i went ahead and ordered a Epson PX720WD, i think its the same as EPSON Artisan 730, now i can dump both my Lemark all-in-one and Epson r220, just hope it as good as the reviews say.

Before we recommend the Canon it's important to know where you live. US sold Canon printers have the disc printing ability switched off and it's necessary to buy both a 3rd party disc tray and to switch the printer into European mode to print to discs. This is a crazy patent issue where somehow Epson got a patent on printing to discs and Canon refuses to pay the patent licensing cost in the USA.

I had an Epson printer once - ONCE. The damn thing refused to recognize the standard Epson ink cartridges that came with the printer. This issue usually doesn't happen, but when it does you have to replace the printer. Since the printer was brand new, I went "Screw Epson", sent the printer back to Newegg.com and got a Canon instead that I modded to print to discs (I live in the USA). I've been happy with my Canon.

Its slightly off topic but this modding, does it affect what paper types you can select? I mean all that a4 and that stuff. But basically if you just use it to print 8x11 does it do that in the modded form without freaking out about the conversion? Also what about things like 4x6 snapshot prints? Is that conversion handled automatically in the modded mode?

As you can see in my computer details, I've modded a lot of Canons to print directly to CD / DVD / BD, and that's not counting the ones I modded for family and friends. They all work perfectly fine with North American paper specs, such as 8½" x 11", etc. The ink is super cheap and even the photo printing is top quality. Really, those printers were too good; that's why they stopped making them.

    .

Thanks for the info. I was curious about that modification.
