  3. I also use MakeMKV. If you wish to reduce the output file size as well, I've had good luck with BD Rebuilder. There are options to produce an .mkv file instead of a BluRay folder structure, or even a SD DVD folder structure.

Once you have the BluRay folder structure on your HD you can also use other converters to convert to .mp4 etc..
MakeMKV is quick since it doesn't encode. With BD Rebuilder you can get good looking output that's less than 5 GB in size. But it takes CPU power and time.

  6. You could use DVDFabPasskey "Lite" (free), run it in the background, and use RipBot (or Handbrake or whatever) to create an MKV direct from disc.

Or use the free version of DVDFab (DVDFabHDDecrypter) to rip to hard drive, then RipBot or other.

Either way, you should be able to do the vast majority of releases, only very recent releases with new copy protections excepted. The free versions of Fab aren't updated immediately, as the pay versions are.

I haven't tried MakeMKV lately. The few times I did, it wasn't reliable for getting the subs, dunno why.

  7. I already have AnyDVD HD. i use to use handbrake and still will for DVD but for Bluray it just took too damn long and myself or someone else will end up needing to use the computer before the encoding is finished.
Storage is coming back down in price so i dont mind just converting to mkv rather than reencoding to shrink the file size (i hope i'm using the right termanology).
So far MakeMKV is giving me subs. subs was the whole reason i started this. i was just playing to m2ts files.
    thanks for your input fellas

ripbot264 is another choice that has been recommended and works well. However I don't know if its still updated or not. If it isn't than some of the other suggestions would be better. It might still work if its "abandonware" but you could end up with some instances where you can't make a h264 file in a mkv and you won't have anyone to help for that program.

  9. Nah, a new version of RipBot was posted just 4 days ago. So apparently Atak is still developing it.

There are lots of ways to do what the OP asks. I just use RipBot because it's satisfactory and I'm familiar with it. You can select "Copy Stream" for video or audio or both if you don't want to re-encode. I usually do crf 20 encodes with AC3 though, for my MKVs.

  11. ripbot will only copy core DTS & DD? no HD or master audio?

  12. I use MeGUI. With AnyDVD running in the background I open MeGUI's HD Streams Extractor and extract just the required video and audio from the disc. Seems to save time compared to ripping the whole disc. HD Streams Extractor will extract the video to an MKV file and the audio to a raw stream. From there you can use MeGUI's muxer to combine the two into a single MKV, or use MeGUI or some other program to encode them.
