    Hi all,

I have a large extensive collection of ripped Blu-ray ISOs (which I own physical copies for), but it's getting to the point where I need to convert them. Hard drive prices skyrocketed and I can't keep up anymore! They are already decoded with AnyDVD HD.

Now, I've tried the MakeMKV and Handbrake workflow but it takes too damn long for a single movie... around 8-9 hours. Looks great and all, but I need something to be faster than this... maybe 2 hours tops. I didn't try it, but perhaps the automatic cropping is slowing things down? I know for sure that without CUDA, it will take a while.

I know many of you are anti-CUDA based on quality, but I've tried out several CUDA enabled programs and the results look great.

I am currently using Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper. I mount an ISO with Virtual CloneDrive. It works great and movies convert in about an hour or so on my system (Core i7 Quad). The downfall is the lack of soft-subs, and I can't figure out how to save a custom profile.

I also tried the Aimersoft Blu-ray Ripper. I couldn't get that to work for some reason, and it too seems to have too simplified settings.

I would something that can automatically crop the black bars on movies. I would imagine it would save on file size, but perhaps it isn't that big a deal.

Any other info out there would be great. A lot of the tutorials and articles I've read are from 2011 or earlier, and I'm sure there's got to be newer stuff out there.

BTW, for my daytime job in pro-AV, I do have a Matrox MXO LE w/ MAX, which accelerates H264 encoding. Unfortunately, I haven't found any tools that use this tech for MKV or movie ripping.

    Thanks!

  2. Just use faster settings in x264. On your quad core i7 it will be both faster and higher quality than CUDA.

Can you suggest some settings? I've tried several and the shortest encode time comes down to about 4 hours. Might look slightly better, but I'm more concerned with speed and getting this done.

I'm looking to keep the movies in 1080, and not scale to 720.
