I need to connect some kind of monitor, doesn't have to be big or calibrated or any of that to monitor what my Canon Vixia M500 is seeing as the camera will be mounted in a vertical position about 10 ft away from where I'll be. Any suggestions? I thought I'd be able to find some kind of cheapo 5 or 7" video display on ebay, but not sure exactly what to search for..

I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-4-3-Inch-LCD-TFT-Monitor-for-Car-Backup-camera-/1809489461...65ccbf&vxp=mtr
which looks like it would work quite nicely for what I need, but what about the power? What is that red connector? I'd need to be able to plug it into the wall. It says Power Supply: DC 12V
Is this what I would buy in order to use this monitor with electricity?

That power adapter would work, but you need to match the connector size and make sure the polarity is right i.e. is the positive on the center pin. The screen comes with a power cord, so you can make any adapter work with it, just stick with switching adapters (aka regulated) that provide at least 1 Amp.

Ok, now in English?
Aren't these connectors all the same? It looks like the end of the red plug on the monitor has the male pin, and the adapter I need to get will have the female, and then the plug into the wall right? I also found this:
http://www.12vadapters.com/adapter/power-supply/12v/1-amp-1a.html
Specifications:
Input: 120 Volt AC. 50-60 Hz
Output: 12 volts DC 1 Amp
Connector Size: 5.5mm (Outside barrel) x 2.5mm (Inside Barrel)
Center: Positive. -
No there are several variations of connectors used for these applications. However those connectors look as if they are physcially compatable. I'm not sure about the polarity though.

You can't fit a connector with a 5.5mm barrel and 2.1mm inner barrel to a mate with a 5.5mm barrel and a 2.5mm pin; or any other variations. Sometimes you can use a smaller pin into a larger barrel, but the connection could be intermittent if there's movement in the connector.
I don't know if you're the lucky winner of the 99 cents monitor, but it comes with a power cord with the right connector; so even if you bought the cheapest adapter you can find and it has the wrong plug, you can just cut it's wire and splice in the supplied cord. -
Na I didn't buy it yet, still trying to figure this thing out with the plug
