  1. I bought a Blacmagic H.264 recorder but now I've run into an issue. I'm unable to install it the supplied software (Media Express) as I get following error message:

This problem unfortunately, isn't specific for this application, I get this, or a similar error message when trying to install all kind of software. I think it must be a registry problem, it all started after I had a couple PC freezes where I had to press the reset button.

So, save from having to install Windows from scratch, does anyone have a solution for me? An alternative software for capturing from Blackmagic devices? Or maybe someone knows a solution for the problem?

This is the error message I get from another program trying to install:

    Any help is certainly appreciated.

couple of things to try out. first you could try making a new user account with admin privileges and install for all users that way. or go into your registry and see if a bad internet zone has been added - regedit to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\" and delete any zone listed before 0(sometimes there's one that looks like an L or box).

  5. Thks for your suggestions, I looked up that registry key, and there are no entries before 0, so then I tried adding a user with admin priveleges. Still got the same errors, tried it with different softwares.

Unfortunatelly I can't even install Quicktime (same error message as with Media Express), which is required for the caputure card to work...

  6. It is extremely likely that any substitute software will suffer from the same problem.

You have a serious issue that needs to be solved, if you really don't want to bother with doing that then the best suggestion I could offer would be to get a camera and take pictures of the screen.

  10. The re-install may, or may not, be the solution to your problem. That would depend on a LOT more information regarding the freezes of your PC that required a power-off reboot.

However, if you are looking for the simplest and easiest way to go, which would appear to be the case, I would start with a repair install first. If that fails, before the re-format I would do some extensive hardware diagnosis along with a thorough anti-virus check.

Without more info it is difficult to give more detailed advice, however experience tells me that you are either unwilling or unable to pursue proper diagnostic and repair procedures. The PC froze up TWICE for a reason, that you then proceeded to just try to find a different software to install speaks volumes.

I will help you try to find out what the real problem is, but this will require some effort on your part. As an example, your answer to the Virus Scan question is totally unacceptable. What programs were used? Note the plural.
