Can you tell me how your doing it? I can never get them to work. VCD works fine, but SVCD says it burned fine, but I can never play them.
How big of an MPEG file can you burn SVCD with NERO? Does it have to be in VCD format before you burn it to SVCD?
I am trying to burn home movies to disk. VCD looks ok, but it sure would be nice if I could get them almost video quality with SVCD.

do they play on your PC? go to tool on this site get STHSVCD see if it play's STHSVCD is buggy but if it play's it work it will have a lip sync problem but STHSVCD or use PowerDVD it should run fine but you have to tell it where the mpeg2 file is. Also your DVD player might not play SVCD

No, the SVCD's won't even play on the computer using WINDVD. The VCD format in NERO works fine. Both on the PC and DVD player, but the SVCD format never does (it acts like I don't even have a disk in). I let NERO do the encoding from VCD to SVCD for me (which takes forever. Payed $16 bucks for the upgrade.)
I let NERO do the convert and NERO says it burned successfully, but I can't play it on PC or the DVD player.
I can't figure out if I am trying to burn too big of files, or if I am doing something wrong in NERO when converting from VCD to SVCD, or if I am doing something wrong when capturing the video in Movie Star!! This is maddening! -
So you're taking a VCD and trying to get Nero to encode it to an SVCD? Why? The quality of the SVCD will be worse (or at best no better) than the original VCD. I don't see the point in converting MPEG1 to MPEG2.
I never use Nero to encode, but maybe the problem is that Nero doesn't convert VCD to SVCD? I would think that the SVCD encoding feature is meant for AVI files.
Someone more experienced with Nero's encoding features should correct me if I'm wrong - I very well may be. -
Your right. I learned a lot in a month after a lot of time and visits to this board. The old motto is true, "Garbage in, Garbage out". I haven't even bothered with SVCD after I found some VCD templates that make the quality as good as VHS with a fraction of the encoding time.

How do you capture your SVCD footage? If you use an ATI AIW, all you need to do is MUX it with TMPEG after you're done capturing. MUXing it doesn't reencode it, so you can do an entire disc's worth in less than 3 minutes.
Once you've muxed it, it will be SVCD-compliant. Load it into Nero and Nero will burn it without complaints.
Don't have an AIW? GET ONE!
