Soemthing I don't understand about synchronizing and subtitles

I know there are many different release types of tv shows and movies around, but what I don't understand is why there are so many different names and types, and why there is no one single subtitle file that works for all of them. for example the same video in HD and in normal quality, why the same captioning should be sync to feet each of the videos if they are the same and at the same length, but at different qualities.

and I'd appreciate it if you give me a list of release types, for example 2hd, notv, xvid and immerse and so on...
