So I've been doing a little reorganizing lately and I'm trying to pack up cables and stuff that I'm not using.
I have a few large clear bags that I've used for storing audio/video and computer cables - separately though - audio/video in one and computer gear in the other - you know usb cables and power cords that sort of thing.
I guess what I'd really like is to have some modular system that would let you coil them up like a garden hose. However I guess for some cabling that would probably shorten the life of the cable if it got pinched or something.
Anyhow what are your techniques for cable management?
Edit - Oh and I'm not really interested in buying anything elaborate or anything in particular - homemade is good for me![]()

Just roll them up in a coil and tape/tie them and toss them in a box.

I'd make sure there wasn't anything pointy and weighty on top of them.
A friend of mine who was a roadie/sound tech told me once that you shouldn't loop a cable any smaller than a small pizza. Pretty good advice. -
roll em up...toss em in a plastic tupperware type drawer container...all mixed together

Makes sense. I don't think I"ve coiled any too tight.Originally Posted by hoser rob
Unfortunately I"m trying to get away from that system. I don't have em totally organized and separated but I'm trying to have them more accessible and layed out better. - though a good container isn't a bad idea. But I'm saving the ones I have for my blurays and the few hd-dvds I have. I don't have enough high def material to start using the flipper cases but I have enough to need organizing.Originally Posted by moontrash
Thanks for the tips and suggestions. Keep em coming. This should be beneficial for everyone

Closet shelves for various pieces of equipment and bags with batteries and ink cartridges and the following:
Shoe boxes labled: computer, 'phone, audio, video, modem, serial, misc./mike
Big box: power, LAN (coiled cables) and some misc. parts too big for the shoe boxes.
Works for me

I coil the cables, secure with a bit of green garden velcro, and sort into clear plastic bags. The bags do degrade, though, thanks to a cat who likes to randomly pounce things.

Good idea. Though I don't have any just laying around. Could adapt the idea though when I get into this organization project with more gusto.Originally Posted by verify

Are those heavy duty twist ties essentially I take it?Originally Posted by constant gardenerDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I've tried all of the above and nothing satisfies me.
At times I think that I'd be better off just to throw away all the cables and go buy one when I needed it. -
Well then what's your criteria for satisfaction?
