I've had a few Lite-On's over the years and this newer Hypertuning/Smartburn feature they have I've never enabled. There's regular Hypertuning and Online Hypertuning. I can't find anywhere at Lite-On a description of what exactly is does or how successful it is. Was wondering if anyone out there with a Lite-On has used this feature with dvd's or Blu Rays etc and how it works...especially online Hypertuning

  2. It allows you to override the firmware and adjust the write strategy, I played around with it a few years ago but it made things worse. You can also adjust the settings in ImgBurn(Tools/Drive/Advanced Settings).

yeah i noticed that thread also. Other than you mentioning you tried it and it didn't do so well...there's not a whole lot of people online that seem to use it. There's not much out there about success rate or anything else.

  4. Plextor had something like that on the PX-716, they called it Autostartegy. It would "learn" new strategies for media that wasn't supported by the firmware. I guess it was more like trying a strategy and keeping tabs on how well it worked out, constantly tuning it until it succeeded.

Sounds good in theory, but it might take a few tries before it got the right strategy; back then disks used to be over a buck and a half a piece and there's the time spent burning the same thing over and over. Plextor drives were made by Lite-on, it's no surprise they would try to improve the technology.

Hypertuning could be useful if it allows the user to specify a strategy by disk MID, like if you know that the new MCC004 can use the same strategy as MCC003. You can do that with some Pioneer drives and DVRflash; it modifies the firmware table instead.
