  1. Ok, add me to the list of people who buy/build a new system and it performs worse than the old one. Old system was a Celeron 400 w/ two 5400rpm hard drives and a Pinnacle PCYV pro card running uncer Windows 2000.

With that I could at least capture 352x240 and 352x480 using huffy and vdub.

New system, Athlon 1800+, 2 hard drives with one dedicated to capturing (100gig, 7200 rpm, dma is turned on), 256mb ddr. Capturing using a Gainward Geforce2 ti tivo card. Using the wdm drivers.

Vdub drops frames like crazy at any size (50% sometimes).

Avi_io doesn't drop any though. So what am I doing wrong? I've changed ide cables and slots (both on the mb and on ata pci card), triple checked dma, tried different sources and formats. In the old system I wasn't using wdm drivers but rather the ones that came with the PCTV Pro card (pict? or something like that).

Any help would e most appreciated.

  2. Have you tried downloading new drivers for your video card and updating to the latest version of DirectX? if not you might need to. Using the drivers installed by default in windows "cripples" your video card. to get full use of it you need to use the drivers that either came with it or download the latest ones from the manufacturers website. Hope this helps some.

I'm sure you know that you spent months,.. maybe years "Tuning" your old system,... till it worked pretty good. Then you went out and got a new system, installed it and expected it to work,... with all that strange hardware,... and several new pieces of software,.... Ha Ha Ha.

You could have all kinds of hidden problems,.. like a new sound card that is sharing and IRQ with your Capture card, or something else. Your motherboard may have one of the VIA chipsets, which really need new drivers to control the DMA interface. Or it may be something as simple as some background software that you loaded and is still running in the background, screwing things up. I could go on and on and on.

Go look in the "User Guides" section of the VCDhelp forums and you will find my guide on "How to tune your system for ATI capture" Most of it has nothing to do with the ATI card but concerns any Windows system.

    Hope this helps
