Dear List
I ask please for help / advice
I have some .flv files downloaded from youtube and other places.
I want to author them into a dvd video with menus etc
I found some progs for dvd authoring dont accept flv files
One that did is the program dvdstyler but after making some dvds and playing them back on the telly, found they didnt all play properly
Does anyone please know if there is a better one than dvd styler that can take flv files. I did try dvdlab but it wouldnt take flv files.
Best wishes
Ian

Yes, DVDflick gives the best results with flv files. As hech54 said, most youTube videos are very poor quality and will look terrible played on a large TV screen.
DVDflick has not been updated for several years but is still available as a free download and does work with all versions of Windows including XP, Vista and 7 (32 or 64 bit). The latest DVDflick version is 3.0.7 but this sometimes does not work well on some PCs: if you find it often fails before creating the DVD, delete it and download the earlier version 3.0.6. Many users find the program is more reliable if you set the target DVD size to "4.3 GB" instead of "Auto-Fit." Depending on the FLV files, you may need to change the DVDflick format setting from PAL to "Mixed NTSC/PAL" or NTSC. With all of these DVD conversion utilities, there can be problems due to badly encoded FLV or other video files that do not correctly follow PAL or NTSC protocol. In these cases you may need to create an NTSC DVD instead of PAL, which should still play fine on a European multi-format disc player and television. Some FLVs, MP4s and AVIs are so poor that they simply will not convert to DVD properly, and the program fails near the end of conversion. If switching the settings around does not fix this, you will not be able to convert those defective files (they will only play on the PC).
DVDflick is fairly easy to use but "forgets" many of your settings each time you close it. For each DVD project, you must remember to turn on the DVD menu option and select a menu design (otherwise your DVD will auto-play with no menu). You also must remember to enter a "project name" if you want it to appear at the top of the DVD menu screen. Also remember to turn on the chapters option if the FLVs are long enough to include chapter points. Finally, by default DVDflick creates DVDs that auto-repeat when they reach the end: if you don't want that, turn it off in the settings menu before making the DVD file.
The setting for chapter intervals and DVD repeat/non-repeat are remembered when you close DVDflick if you click the "save as default" checkbox. The menu on/off is NEVER remebered in version 3.0.6 but ALWAYS remebered in version 3.0.7, thats the biggest difference between versions.Last edited by orsetto; 15th Mar 2012 at 11:14.
