I've been using this program in the past, but now can't seem to get it to work properly.

The menu editor freezes and loads only default pic - logo of avstodvd.

When I press "start" I immediately get a message - "process aborted."

I have uninstalled and re installed the latest build - same problem.

    Thanks

You could try the avstodvd support thread elsewhere on this forum, but it's hard to say exactly without knowing what may have changed on your system since the last time it worked.

One thing I've found with avstodvd is that when you're updating to a different version it's not only a good idea to uninstall avstodvd itself first (generally good anyway) but also to uninstall all the other programs it installs along with itself. Remember, avstodvd is just a front end for a bunch of other open source utilities, some involving scripted languages, which I can't be bothered to learn how to use.

I wouldn't necessarily bother with this with aften audio encoder. I don't think it's been updated since 2007 or thereabouts.

One potential problem I can see with this kind of stuff in general is that a number of programs use programs like ffdshow. And some of them expect to see different versions of it/them. It's all a bit hacker for me.

For example, I had a problem with avstodvd installing 2.4.0. The only way I could fix it was to install something called Windows 7 Preferred Filter Tweaker and set all the preferences to directshow instead of ffdshow.

However, I don't recommend Windows 7 Preferred Filter Tweaker or anything like it in general. It reeks of hacker. I wasn't comfortable doing this on my old machine I was running avstodvd on and there's no way I'm going to use something like that on my newer one that I do video stuff on now.

I've discussed this with a number of real, doing-it-for-a-living, professional programmers. They all say the same thing. If someone wants you to mess with the Windows registry to get a program to work, run away.

Nevertheless, I have avstodvd 2.4.2 now and it hasn't had any problems.

Myself, though, I haven't used avstodvd or anything else like it lately. Generally computers have HDMI out nowadays. I hate TV so what I did was get a monitor big enough to watch video on.

As painful as it sounds for those of us with substantial DVD collections, physical media is dying. CD's soon, DVD/BR's next.

Looks like AviSynth is messed up. Unistall and reinstall it.

Then make sure to use good directshow codecs, like ffdshow.

I finally got it to work by changing ffshow to directshow.

The result when converting avi to dvd is poor picture and sound quality.
Are there any other settings to correct this?

Post some samples of the input clup and output result.

Do you want a screen grab or a short clip?

If you want the clip, can you tell me how to extract a short section?

  7. Some video frames could be enough. You can use MPC-HC to grab images at a specific frame.

To take short sections you can use Avidemux.

I used avidemux to copy about one minute, but the output cannot be read.
    What setting do I use?

  9. What input container are you using? AVI, MKV, FLV, MP4, ...? Use same format for Avidemux output.
