For an Intel Core i7 Processor you will have to buy a new motherboard, ram and possible videocard depending if you use on board/cpu graphics,in other words no.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
I don't mind getting another one for the toshia laptop. In otherwords which on is good for the toshiba laptop?

You can't upgrade laptop cpu, gotta buy a new laptop.

Maybe someone here can recommend what laptop you should get depending what you need to do with such as gaming,encoding,etc..

I can't imagine using a laptop for any serious encoding, that may take hours. I would buy a good i7 2600k sandibridge computer, or build one. It will be way cheaper and better than using a laptop.

I would like to build a laptop. Reasons why, is because I go to alot of places. I travel all around mostly everyday and I usually bring my laptop around. I tired looking for one but they already come built in with core i7. I want to find a laptop that has a core i7 socket (that doesn't come with intel core i7) and cheap. Then buy the parts for it. I.e Intel Core i7, GPU, Ram, Etc.

A laptop is not a very good choice for an encoding machine. I'd build a new desktop for your encodes and leave your existing laptop just for playback.
Have a good one,
neomaine

Building your own laptop is not really an option, especially with an i7 processor. Even the major players are having a time with getting battery life to reasonable times for the i7, along with dissipating the heat from all the processing power. Doing serious video on a laptop seems to be more of a wish rather than a reality. Give the major manufacturers some more time. They may get a reasonable working solution, given the number of people that want the same thing as you.
-
And unless you have access to power line everywhere you go your laptop battery life would be unrealistically usable for anything else.

There are such things as bare-bones laptops, but pardon my frankness, building a laptop is clearly out of your league at present. If you do not know that you can't upgrade the CPU on any of the systems you currently own to an i7, you have a very long way to go before you know enough to build your own laptop.
Desktops are much easier to build yourself. Laptop parts tend to be proprietary, are not easily interchangeable, and there are more compatibility issues. Plus, power and cooling are going to be a much bigger problem than would be the case with a desktop. You won't be able to pick any i7 you want. You will be limited to mobile i7 CPUs compatible with your motherboard.
Look at high-end gaming laptops like Sager or Alienware that allow you to pick something close to what you want from amongst several models and configure the options from a list. -
My $0.02. Start over. I'm big on HP workstations. They are a real deal used. Search ebay "HP XW8600 2x Quad-Core Xeon E5450 3.0GHz 8Gb 2x147Gb 15k SAS FX3700" $600 delivered. You will need to add Win 7 ($120) and a system SATA drive ($75). You get 8 3.0 GHz cores with a 1333 bus, 15K Video RAID, 8Gb RAM and a nice Quadro card. What's not to like.
