  1. I have a weird and annoying problem with an application called DVDFab using the DVD Copy module where it won't detect when a DVD disc is inserted/ejected.

    What I've found is this:

With DVDFab started before I insert a DVD the DVD is not "seen" by DVDFab nor when looking in Windows Explorer and if I click on the drive letter associated with my DVD drive in Windows Explorer the DVD will be ejected from the drive.

With DVDFab not started the DVD disc is detected just fine in Windows Explorer when inserted and also in DVDFab when starting DVDFab after the disc has been detected in Windows Explorer.

Before I got this problem when I ejected the disc having DVDFab running DVDFab would immediately detect when the disc was ejected and replace the title in the 'Source' box with the standard message 'Please insert DVD...' however now the title of the DVD remains although the DVD has been physically ejected and the only way to have DVDFab DVD Copy recognize a new DVD is to close it and then insert the new DVD and then restart DVDFab DVD Copy. So...to sum all up...whenever I have DVDFab started no DVDs will be detected when they are inserted/ejected not only in the DVDFab software itself but also in standard Windows applicatins like Windows Explorer.

I realize this could be both a hardware, OS or application problem but considering all DVDs are detected just fine as long as I don't have DVDFab started to me that points in the direction that it's a DVDFab problem. I've also posted about this problem in the support forum for DVDFab but they insist it's not a DVDFab problem but rather something spooky in my Windows installation although everything to me points in the direction it's a DVDFab problem considering what I already said above...the problem only exists with this single application...DVDFab.

I'm always running the latest version of DVDFab and I've tried reinstalling DVDFab as Administrator with my AV (Avast!) and UAC disabled and then launching the application as Administrator but still no joy. I've also played around with the AutoPlay options in Win7 but the problem remains whatever I do

I'm running Win7 x64 Ultimate with all the latest updates etc and generally try to keep my Windows installation very clean.

Anyone with an idea what might be causing this?

    TIA,

    Richard

you should probably ask your question at the DVDFab forums.

I still say it's a computer problem though.

  6. But don't you think it's strange I only have this problem when I have DVDFab running if it indeed is a general Windows and/or computer problem? Anytime I don't have DVDFab running all DVDs are detected both when inserted and ejected just fine...

I'm far from a computer genius but I am older than dirt....maybe something is grabbing hold of the DVD before DVDFab can get hold of it.

  8. But if something was "blocking" the DVD wouldn't I also have the same problem then when DVDFab isn't running? Like I said above if I don't have DVDFab running DVDs are detected and pop up just fine in Windows Explorer for example and likewise disappears when ejected but with DVDFab running before I insert a DVD the DVD doesn't even show up not only in DVDFab but also in Windows Explorer.

To me it seems that it's rather DVDFab blocking the DVD detection so hard that even DVDFab itself won't detect when a DVD is inserted/ejected.

  9. Well - I for one think it's the software. In my own experience, I bought, downloaded, and installed DVDFab only to find that after installation, my DVD drive stopped working altogther. In addition, my screensaver, desktop, homepage, and several others things changed. It now takes a good minute for a DVD to load.... if it will load at all. In most cases, the drive doesn't even recognize the DVD. It just sits there and does nothing. Needless to say, I haven't been able to rip anything since loading the software. I did have some VOB files loaded though so I've been ripping those to get used to the software. I would've gone with AnyDVD HD but I couldn't figure out a way to pay them since they are out of the UK. So I went with DVDFab. To fix this I'll probably have to re format my hard drive. The only thing is I'm in Afghanistan and I don''t have the master disks for some of the programs I would have to re install. Anyway, I don't want to hog your thread but I did want you to know about my story and that you're not alone.

  10. Thanks for sharing your experiences, in a way it's good to know I'm not the only one with these kind of problems but I'm not sure how close our problems are because I only have this problem with DVDFab started where you seem to have it regardless of DVDfab is running or not.

I think it's very strange how it can be so hard to solve a problem like this one, I reported about it in DVDFab's forums looong time ago and since then there have been a number of DVDFab updates released and I can't even remember all things I've tried while troubleshooting but still the problem persists...

  11. yeah - I've reported my issue several times also. Although to be fair, this only happened about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Whereas with your issue, it sounds like it's been going on for awhile.

  12. Yep, my problem has been going on for a long time now. Can't even remember when I reported it first time over in DVDFab's support forums but I guess it must be maybe one year ago or so...
