I am working on a project which incorperates avi files amongst audio and still images, however some of these avi files (google earth movies recorded using frapps screen capture app) just appear as white blocks on the timeline.

    - some have been time-scaled, could this have upset their framerate or something?
    - the drive they are on is still readable
    - there is no message saying 'media offline'
    - when i hit the event pan/crop button a massive red square appears under the big 'f' (excuse the lack of the technical terms!)
    - like i say some are still active whilst others just simply sit there - events with nothing in them.
    - replacing the event with the orig avi appears to give the same issue
    - i have tried to load up a seperate instance of vegas pro 10 to open a prev. saved version but this has simply crashed at 42% load. this means i have to get this version sorted and rendered otherwise i will be unable to open it again (is always crashing at 48%, but thats another story!)

any help would be greatly appreciated. i have used vegas a bit but never struck this issue.
    thanks

  2. Do any instances of the fraps videos work in vegas ?

Did you upgrade or alter your fraps install recently? If so, try going back to earlier version

yes there are still some fraps videos that are working, and they were all made at the same time. However, I vaguely remember a dialogue box appearing saying I should upgrade fraps due to vegas not allowing the frame rate, which makes me think it was because I time stretched one or 2 of them. Perhaps I should convert them to .mov or something similar and reimport?
