I encoded the same video in both programs. VS took about 3 minutes and Vegas 9. Why is Vegas soooo slow? Sandy Bridge, 64 bit with 16 gig of ram.
Vegas Movie Studio 11 Platinum, VideoStudio Pro X4
Video duration 2.5 minutes. File types AVI. Encoded to 1920X1080, 60i AVCHD

  2. Different encoders, different settings. Otherwise, your post is too vague to give more specific reasons.

Is there a way to improve the rendering. That program has more twists and turns than a sidewinder. If this happens to others then, this program sucks big time and can only be used for small projects-very small.

As jagabo said, different encoders, different settings. Speed depends on MANY variables. For example CBR encoding will be faster than VBR, but the latter will be more economical with file size. One encoder may be creating more B frames in the GOP structure than the other.

For a reasonable comparison, you need to match every variable between encoder settings, including bitrate, rate control settings, GOP structures, audio streams, etc.

Beyond encoding times, you should also compare output quality carefully.

Try not to make knee-jerk assessments until you've delved deeper into the encoding process.

Vegas does not, to my knowledge, let you select encoders. VS Pro X4 just whips along, with very good quality, why can't Sony-no bologna.
I changed the template but, to no avail.

In the past Premiere, Vegas and ULead Video Studio all used the MPeg2 Mainconcept SDK but the implementation differed.

What format are you encoding to?

Start at the beginning and explain source, resolution and export settings.

AVI with what compression codec? There are dozens.

AVCHD uses h.264 and an m2ts container.

  8. With many encoders there can be more than a ten fold difference in encoding speed between the fastest and slowest settings.

If VS Pro X4 can encode quickly and well, then why ---- can Sony do the same without all this obfuscation? Seems I will use Vegas sparingly for special effects etc. A two hour project would take a day to encode at this rate. Sayonara Vegas. This is not a marketable product but, crap.

  10. You just need to set the encoder to faster settings. I don't use Vegas so I can't help you with that. And, as has been mentioned, you should look at the quality of the output files. I suspect you will find that Vegas output significantly better looking video. That's why it took longer.

  11. pepegot1 , in another thread you blame Vegas that doesn't work effectively with audio, the best software for working with audio, swiftly and effectively ...

Vegas lets you to choose encoder, just go to advanced settings , not sure how it is exactly in Studio version ...

    "Render as" Many codecs.
For xvid or divx (if that is what you want), you need to install.

They certainly hide it well. I cannot find it under options or any where. There is a template, when you go to save the video but, no encoder. That should something that hits you in the face. So, all this talk is useless, if I cannot get to the encoder!

Just another fly in the ointment. Upgraded from build 220 to 256 and lost Help File. These guys write nice user friendly software. Now, back to build 220-what crap!
    Quote Quote
  16. The fix for the lost help files is to un-install build 256 and re-install it. That is the fix posted on the Vegas boards.

This is no sane fix. If you unstall build 256, then you reinstall the older build and then install build 256-IT DON"T WORK!
Nothing about this user hostile program is intuitive. They must have had the 9/9/9 man working for them.

You cannot reinstall build 256 over itself. Windows does not allow that. This program sucks BIG TIME

    pepegot,
despite your thinly veiled disdain of Vegas Movie Studio, you should pay attention to what TreeTops said before. "Un-install and re-install and don´t re-install the old build". It does work.

As I delve into Vegas I can see it has more power then VS. I learn new things everyday. However, it renders, for me, like s---. Therefore, I use it in combination with VS and get good results. I will have to see how it evolves, as I am obviously a new user.

    <<< "Un-install and re-install and don´t re-install the old build". It does work.>>>
There is no way to uninstall the build 256 part leaving the rest of Vegas, old build intact, and reinstall 256 again. It all goes or nothing. Unless, you explain what you really mean. Windows 7 does not allow me to install 256 over 256. It says "it's already there."

If you would explain what formats you are encoding, we can help. As of now I'm clueless what source you are trying to encode to which format.

I shoot 1920 X 1080 at 60i. This is what I work with. I make the movie using Sony's AVCHD 1920X1080 frame and codec. I make all Blu Ray. I add some AVI and WMV clips too. I would appreciate your help.
I use Imgburn to complete the job. I make a m2ts with Vegas

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11 can get you to Blu-Ray.

I've got Vegas Platinum 10 but use MultiAVCHD to do DVDR AVCHD discs. I haven't attempted Blu-Ray on that machine.

On a different machine I have Vegas Pro (now v11) and a Blu-Ray burner. This machine can handle Blu-Ray authoring.

So I can help with those two configurations.

Right now I have no need to update the Movie Studio Platinum v10 to v11. Other than that I can help you to do your thing.
