  1. I converted a couple of 720p films with mkv2vob - However, each movie seems to hang for a few seconds during 4-5 scenes in the movie, and continues to play fine to the end.

    Using PS3 firmware 3.73 & mkv2vob 2.4.9

Happened to the past 6 different 720p movies that i converted to be used on my USB stick (also tried different USB sticks - same thing)

Anybody know how to fix this issue?

  4. 12 reframes and 7 bframes are probably too much for the PS3. Try reencoding with something around 4 reframes and 3 bframes.

SD resolutions on the PS3 can handle a lot of reframes and bframes but once you get to 720p and above then there is a limit to what the PS3 can do. Basically the PS3 is limited to High@4.1 profile. Although your video details say High@4.1 this is misleading because it simply isn't true. If it was then your reframes and bframes wouldn't be so high.

Having said what I just said ... I have seen my PS3 play movies with specs that appear to be above High@4.1 but it is very "hit or miss"

One thing that seems to help is to copy the file to the PS3 so that you are playing it directly from the internal HDD. Bitrate spikes can be so high on such files that this could cause stuttered playback when playing back from a USB stick or a DVD-R AVCHD or a wireless network streaming method.

Also I stopped using MKV2VOB eons ago. I just create a M2TS file using tsMuxeR which works great when you have x264 video and AC-3 audio.

  6. Thanks for the quick replies - I will try using tsMuxeR and then sending it to the PS3 Hard Drive.

Just a quick question = Where can I change the reframes and bframes as (jagabo)pointed out?

    Thanks again!

You can't change that unless you actually re-encode the video.
