  1. Hello everyone!

Does anyone know how to rip still images from a featurette of a DVD? I think I found the right entries in smartripper, but how do I proceed?

    Thanks a bunch

  2. Powerdvd 4 lets you capture still images from a dvd.

  3. Thanks kmiura182, but I don't want to capture still images from the running movie
There is a still picture gallery as a feature on the DVD. Question is, how do I get to those images?

  4. The still menus/features are almost always in on of the VTS_??_0.VOB files. Usually, they are in the VTS_01_0.VOB file.

All you have to do is to extract/rip this VOB file (either using SmartRipper in file mode or DVD Decrypter).

Then, you can use either FlaskMPEG or DVD2AVI to extract the images from the decrypted vob file.

The above VOB file will contain usually menu animations, etc., as well. Usually, if I want animations, I use Flask. If I want stills, I use DVD2AVI (as it allows you to save the current screen to BMP by pressing B -- very good quality).

You will probably have to resize the BMP afterwards as DVD2AVI doesn't do any resizing.

  5. Thanks vitualis (and excuse my late reply).
Suggesting to use SmartRipper in file mode was a big help. I found those still images, unfortunately after ripping the appropriate file DVD2AVI displays them all messed up. The upper half of each image is green with funnily coloured blocks and parts of other pictures sprinkled about.
Other stills, from another VTS_X.vob are displayed perfectly. Alas, not the ones I want

Dammit, I get everything else, menus, chapter animations, biography stills, but not the stills I really wanted...
Oh well, then I guess I'll have to capture them "by hand".

    Thanks anyway!

    Take care

  6. Hey!
I may have an explanation for why the images are a mess: Those stills are overlaid over another background image.
While I don't see why exactly this should be a problem as the actual images still have to be intact in some vob, this is the distinguishing difference to all other still images like menus and stuff.
    Drat!

Anyway, another small addition: If you ever want to save a bitmap in DVD2AVI, but find the according menu entry disabled, change to RGB in the Video|Color Space menu.

    Take care
