  5. hi,

Try to use DVDx with Some other encoder like CCE or Panasonic Mpeg encoder. I use CCE with DVDX it is great and have no problem so far and it is bettee than the Direct DVDXto VCD encoding. or else use DVD2AVI and TEMPengc once of the best method's and both are free.

DVDx 1.8/1.8a will not work with Panasonic plugin, version 1.8 may work 1 out of 100 times (say, on a fresh, clean Windoze install, otherwise it will most often crash), version 1.8a will not work at all, no way.
If you want to use Panasonic plugin use it with DVDx 1.6, it works 100% with good results (but you will suffer from blinking subtitle bug in DVDx 1.6, but this is not really a big deal). During installation when asked for Premiere plugin folder just point to DVDx folder and off you go. Settings which worked best for me were:
    - noise reduction: weak or medium
    - video filter: adaptive, medium level
    - color tone correction: TV (I use TV to watch VCD movies, not PC)
It seems that Panasonic plugin, while providing overall very nice quality, darkens the output .mpeg a bit, therefore I usually turn on luminance filter in input options of DVDx, gain/offset of 150/50 to 200/20 worked best when watched on big screen.
Sinc I don't make SVCDs I only use this combo for DVD to VCD work.

i have dvdx 1.8 and the panasonic encoder works fine for me, at first it
kept crashing i found out this was down to the rgb24 setting i changed this to rgb 32 (in output settings)and away it went done american pie 2 (2 dics's)and scary movie 2 (1 disc) in one day without a hitch in vcd format. also dont tick multi pass for the encoder this will also cause a crash, also in the input settings i would advise u put the "save your dvd drive" setting to 700mb location hard drive this will ensure ur dvd dosnt over heat, i had it set to 10mb and my drive would stop reading the disc half way through the encoding everytime. this was done on windows xp so dont know if thats a factor , good luck peeps
