I just got an HDHomerun Prime with CableCard to use with my Win 7 PC. I then discovered I can not use my PS3 to watch the encrypted recordings on my TV, which is located on the other side of the room.
I am trying to keep the cost of any set up as low as possible, as I was not planning on having to spend any more money after getting the HDHR. I assumed that since the recordings were still being played from the hard drive that recorded them, I would not have this issue.
I have tried both PlayOn and PS3 Media Server. Both work great for any files that did not require the cable card, but then can not play my recordings from channels like FX, USA, CNN, etc., nor can they display live TV.
If I move my pc next to the TV, I will lose the ability to use it as a pc/Internet station, due to the layout of my apartment.
The only options I can think of are 1. Buying a media extender, which I'm not thrilled about due to not wanting to invest any more money in this set up. Or:
2. Running cables around the perimiter of my apartment to my receiver so I can use my TV as a second monitor. The problem here is my pc has both DVI-D and Display Port out, neither of which carries audio (this pc's DP does not do audio), so I would also have to run another cable for the audio to my receiver. The dang motherboard doesn't even have a digital audio out jack, so I would actually have to run 6 seperate audio cables all the way around the room.
Does anyone know of a cable/adaptor combo that I can use (I estimate any cables would have to run around 25 feet)?
Otherwise, any advice on an extender that is compatable with Vista/Win7 (and won't cost a fortune)?
I have an original Xbox, but MS made Vista and Win7 incompatable with it.![]()
