  1. Just got a new Ati HD 5670 vid card and tested converting an mkv file. My two usual encoders took over 8 minutes for the file while Mediashow Espresso to 4:26 for the same file. Tremendous difference but the problem is that it didn't do the subtitles. Is there any freeware encoder that can use Ati's gpu acceleration and do subtitles? Thanks.

  2. MediaCoder is one. But I think it only supports Nvidia's CUDA.

  3. Thanks. I tried it and it did the same file almost as fast as Mediashow and did the subs too.

  4. Oops, my mistake. Mediacoder works with CUDA but I need something with Ati Stream support.

  5. ATI's AVIVO encoder uses the GPU. But when I looked at it a year or so ago it had few options and did a very poor job.

  7. Wish there were more options since I found out the 5670 card is not supported by Mediashow, only the 5700 and 5800 series.

Tmpeg 4.0 will use the GPU for effects (resize,etc...) assuming the source is mpeg-2. other sources fall back to software. If quaility is of any concern be careful with a straight GPU encoder.
if all else fails read the manual

  9. These days it seems everything is in mkv format with subs so I was looking for something that can do that easily and use gpu acceleration. Mediacoder is good though so I'll stick with that for now until someone comes up with the right software.

I came across to this software "A's Video Converter", which uses ATI's GPU acceleration.
    Link: http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/en/index.html

It is a freeware and the conversion is very fast (what one would expect).
As to quality and options, everyone should judge for themselves if these are acceptable.

  11. Use mkvmerge gui in mkv toolnix , just add ur mkv , add the sub track , and merge , it streams the 2 together as well as audio tracks

    i tried it
yes i does hardware acceleration via avivio
and ive tried baddaboom on my gtx 200 series

but still nothing comes close to other encoders like handbrake for good conversions
, meGUI and yr eac3to more gui for amazing conversions ( very complex )

I can convert a bluray 720 into mkv 720 , under 700 meg and perfect quality
cartoon series dvdrip 20 mins long under 100 - 130 meg

need to be able to increase b frames with optimal + adjustments on ref frames , quantization ,subpixel motion and psychovisual rate etc could go on and on in detail .

best way is to rip and compress the video , audio tracks , subtitles , and then mkvmerge
batching will never give the compression and quality .

Yeah! Try Freemake Video Converter. It doesn't support Stream, but it does support CUDA & DXVA, & it's free!
