Hi everyone, great site. Ive done some searches on here, and although similar, I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Just wanted to run an idea past the wise minds on here and get an opinion - even a "Yes, that'll work" or a "No, you're stupid" will do!
My goal:
- To reduce latency while recording with a Hauppauge HD PVR, I am looking at taking HDMI 1080i output from my 360/PS3, and split it using a powered HDMI Splitter (like this).
- I want to take one output and plug it straight into my monitor (currently, I'll do this via a simple HDMI to DVI cable - my new monitor soon will have HDMI inputs)
- I want to take the other HDMI output, and put it through a HDMI to Component converter (like this, or a HDMI to component cable, which I am unsure will work). This component signal will then be the input to the HD PVR.
- There will be no output from the HD PVR as this is not required.
The reason I am doing the above is for the simple reason of reducing latency - I'm not really too keen on going through the normal method of passing through the HD PVR, and then through a component to HDMI converter.
Would this work?
Thanks for reading, appreciate any help I can get.

It should work, assuming all the parts work as advertised. Which is a big assumption with cheap components like those.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my current monitor doesn't have it, and the monitor I will be getting (Samsung S23a950) doesn't either - I've noticed that HDTVs/Monitors with component inputs usually have 5ms response time, rather than the 2ms ones of my current and upcoming monitor.
Sorry, I didn't quite understand this - which analog component loop are you talking about? The passthrough in the HD PVR?
Wow! I actually thought those components were semi-decent. Well, atleast the splitter. Are there any other alternatives you might recommend? -

Not sure if a 2ms model with analog component input exists.
The HD PVR is intended to be used analog component in and analog component loop to an HDTV. There is zero latency if used as intended.
Your plan to convert HDMI to analog component needs proof of concept. There are several converters in the $45 range but video quality may not be adequate. Also you may run into HDCP issues with certain HDMI source devices like tuners or some game machines. The HDMI spec requires such devices to down convert to SD.
