    no stock cooler provided. intel doesn't make one that could keep it from melting.

    Certainly Intel could provide an appropriate CPU cooler with the CPU if they wanted to. If you read the article, they are going to be selling the CPU coolers separately.

    I agree with the author of the article, who speculated that Intel has decided the customers buying them are likely to install aftermarket cooling anyway, so why make them pay for something they won't use?

    We have all seen other CPUs sold in OEM packaging with no cooler, although there is generally a retail version (packaged with a cooler) available too.

    What does that make the 125 watt TDP of many current AMD CPUs? Regarding the rumored 180 watts -- it's common for pre-production parts to have that sort of problem. What a bunch of hyperbole!
