I help coach a swimming / diving and it would be excellent feedback to the divers if we could set up a camcorder on the diving board that would record all the dives and play them back with a one minute or so delay.
That way each diver could get out of the pool and then watch their own dive on the monitor without any "intervention" required from the coaches ... who are busy running around.
Is there an easy way to introduce an "intentional" delay into the playback of video stream captured with a camcorder?![]()

As a former swimmer/diver I'm intriqued by the idea (and wish they could have done this 30+ years ago) Any "TIVO" like software that allows you to pause "live" TV on the computer should work for this. I know ATI's MMC can do it. Start the program and pause, start the playback after the first diver gets there and the rest should take care of itself.

Thanks guys!
One reply I received that did not seem to get posted correctly is one I am going to research.
It seems some DVD recorders have what is called "chasing playback".
Even the "least expensive" Panasonic has it @ $200 or so bucks.... so I'm thinking that might be a simple to operate "Tivo" type plan....
Thanks!

Can someone recommend a product today that offers this function? (Need not be new, will purchase used if necessary!) I want a device that will input from a camcorder (composite video) and will then output with a time delay. (Without using a computer.) Preferably a HDD recorder.

Hi
i set one up at our pool. Rather the using an expensive camcorder I used a CCTV camera. Along with a little box I got in Maplin I ran the signal to a philips DVR. Works perfectly. The box, I cant remember what it was called (will find out if need be but essently converts the cctv signal to a tv signal) cost about €30. The camcorder didn't work because the DVR needs to think its getting a TV signal not a camera signal to pause live TV so it needs to come into the coaxial port. Hope this makes sense.

Hi donal, thanks for your answer!
I already have a camcorder and an underwater camera. They each have composite video outputs. Sounds like I would need an RF modulator to convert the signal to coax in order to feed that into my DVR.
Is the little box you use called an RF modulator? This may just be the link I've been missing all along!

HI GJG
think this is it(found on you link. Not 100% but makes sense as it appears that is what an RF modulator does. It will distort the picture a little, but it works for use. The only problem I have is when trying to do "slow mo" play back, the menu banner comes up and interferes with the full shot, otherwise it serves its purpose.
I also just bought a canon"playsport" camcorder which now provides the frame by frame playback.
hope it works out
