I need help picking a new home stereo. I want to spend like $400-500 and I want it mostly for music but I also would like to hook it up to my TV for watching movies. I'll want to hook it up to my laptop and play music through it, using my phone as a remote control. I was looking at this: Sony LBT-ZX66i iPod Ready Mini Shelf System, but I don't know. Any suggestions?

I also have two speakers from an old JVC 550-watt unit that I used to have. They are similar to these: http://cgi.ebay.com/jvc-gigatube-speakers-/220814598319?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=it...#ht_500wt_1413

I'm wary of ANYTHING Sony makes these days except their small digital cameras, which I like. Sony is a pretty schizophrenic company with the elctronics half of the company wanting your business pretty badly as an electronic consumer and the media half thinking you're a thief just because you are a living human being. In my opinion the Sony name hasn't stood for quality in some years now.

This particular system does not play movies. Are you saying that you want the system you buy to play movies or that you want to play movies on a different system and have the sound go through what you buy? If it's the latter then you need some kind of home theater setup, not something like this.

I would be using a pc to play movies and music. I would prefer a usb port on the device so I could just use that to connect the pc to it. My old JVC system had this. If you don't like Sony, do you like any other similar models?

    Thanks

Also, my old speakers are still good. Can I just buy a receiver and use my old speakers?

I was going to suggest a PC based system but after looking at MourningStar's link I think that might be exactly what you need.

Do note that it may not be possible to make this system region free for DVD playback. You may not care at all about that and that may be fine, but if you do care about region free playback you need to investigate if hacks exist for the player BEFORE you buy it.
