Since last year when my favorite video star left this earth, I very seldom use my Sony HD-HC-3. Occasionally, I use my el cheapo Kodak digital camera to capture some HD moments. Setup and posting to Youtube are quick.

I know 'almost' nothing is permanent even if not used. Is it bad not to use the camcorder for one or two years? It still works, the last time I checked 3 months ago. I have it inside a canvass bag. The tapes I'm not too worried. I have multiple backups. One in DVDs and two in hard drives. I'll have to re-backup them at some point, I know.

    Thanks for the suggestion/s.

I suspect but don't know that camcorders, like hard drives benefit from periodic use to keep the lubricants functional.

By periodic, I mean annual to bi-annual. I try to do this.

Remember there is a bios (watch like) battery in most camcorders that needs periodic replacement.

Thanks. I just thought of it when I recall a central air-con technician told me to run it once in awhile for ten minutes as proper maintenance. Same was told about the dishwasher.
