Ok, im going to hook up a TV card tonight. my question is: Do I run the cable from where the cable comes out of the wall, Right before the VCR, Right before the TV????

Im going to have a splitter.

    Code:
             ------------TO VCR
    WALL-----|
             ------------TO TV CARD

    OR

              -----------TO TV
    VCR-------|
              -----------TO TV CARD
    (Those are my splitters)

If anyone could help that would be great.

-Sorry for the lame pictures. If I was at home i'd make some pimped out PSP pics(LoL)

    need more information.

Do you plan to capture VHS tapes or just strait from TV?

And what kind of card do u have>

  3. The first way you show will allow you to use the the card to change channels and capture tv shows to your hard drive. You will not be able to capture video tapes to the hard drive.

The second way allows you to change channels with the card when the vcr is off (or set for tv versus vcr when on). And you can capture recorded tapes to the hard drive. But you are doing so over the cable input.

If your card is similar to my pv233, the best way is as follows:

I have mine spilt with (as in your first drawing) one going to VCR and one going to TV card.
And I have the VCR's RCA video out going to the "composite in" on the card, with the RCA audio jacks going to the audio in of the card via a converter plug that takes the two RCA cables and combines them into a PC stereo plug. (or into the sound card input and out of the sound card out to the TV cards audio in). By using a software switch on the TV viewer program you can either watch/record TV (tuner) or watch/record tapes(video).

    Hope this helps.

Im only going to be capturing TV. So I guess Ill do it from the wall. Its a TView 99 card.

My other question is: The tv card has a jack and a cable that runs to the sound card. Does this plug in the speaker jack or the line-in?

Thanx for the help thus far!!!!

I do it the same way as Frank.

This then lets you use the VCR as your tuner to switch channels rather than the software. This then lets you easily create your own little TivO

AUdio input depends on your setup. It can be either. Check in your SOund properties and in your Dubbing software which input is active and which one the software is looking for.

I havnt hooked it up yet. Was just wondering if the sound cable goes from the TV card to the speaker jack on the sound card or the TV card to the audio in on the sound card?????

Im not going to worry about the RCA plugs right now. Im just going to use the coax.

    Thanx

  8. As far as the cable between the TV card and sound card, I have to look at mine tonight to be sure but it doesn't go to the speaker out put of the sound card. If the VCR sound is going to the TV card then the cable has to go to the line in of the sound card. Check the manual that came with the card.

Spidey - You confuse me. If you are doing it same way as me... I use software to change tv channels and the vcr isn't used at all for tuning TV channels or capturing TV programs. I only fire up the VCR when capturing video tapes.

maybe I should mention that this is a separate VCR used only for capturing. I have a separate one hooked up to the TV for watching tapes.
If you only have one VCR then its cable out should go to the TV.

Im not going to use the vcr method.

Just the wall to splitter. splitter output-1 to TV Card splitter output-2 to VCD.

So am I correct in saying that all I need is a coax cable. NOT rca plugs or svideo or anything else......JUST coax???

    Thanx

  10. you are correct as long as you also hook up the audio cable between the sound card and the Tv card.

And if you can't view any cable channels, see my post about tuning cable channel manually. But that was an issue with the PV233 and my cable provider...
