I have a miniDV camcorder (Sony DCR-TRV33) and the quality is poor when converting with a USB cable.

Also, winDV does not recognize the USB cable for some reason.

Will buying a 1394a cable + PCI card fix the problem? And if so, where is the best place to buy it online?

This one comes with a cable: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815265002

I don't know if WinDV will work with a USB connection, but it works fine with FireWire.

The USB cable is for low resolution WebCam use. You need ilink (firewire) to get full resolution. WinDV only works with firewire.

    Interesting.

Just to verify... 1394a = Firewire, correct?

    The terminology confuses me.

Firewire=1394a=i.LINK. All the same, just different names. From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire Sometimes also called FireWire 400 as there is now a FireWire 800, but not in common use at this time.

    neweggneweggnewegg

been using them for years, shipping to doorstep in under 2 days, never an issue with an RMA, best price and service on the web, period.

    EDIT:

also be aware that firewire comes in different sizes. VERIFY what type of connection your camera accepts. the plugin to the computer is universal.
