Sorry if this is a very basic question. I have finally achieved a comfort level of sorts with my GoPro (Mp4, 1080p/30fps) editing using Machete from this site. I would like to get a Nikon DSLR (since I have 15K invested in Nikon glass) that shoots video BUT, the only cameras that will operate my AF lenses offer either 1080p at 24 fps OR 720P at 30 fps.

What happens or how does one mix (assuming one can) the different formats. I am imagining that I would prefer the 720p at 30 fps as more visually compatible that the 1080p at 24 fps which I would imagine would be jerky with motion.

    ANy suggestions, thoughts??

    Thanks.

    aedipuss,
The 5100 auto-focuses only with AF-S lenses. I already have 15K invested in fabulous AF lenses, and Nikon has 50% of it's line that still support the old AF format.....but none that do 1080p at 30 fps. There is no existing Nikon camera, or any other make that uses Nikon AF lenses, that shoots in 1080p/30fps that I have found in a week of diligent searching.

So, back to the initial question....how does/what happens when....one tries to mix 1080p with 720p....or 30fps with 24 fps?

    Anyone?

there is nothing wrong with mixing 720p with 1080p. it just requires the editing program to do more processing. well shot 720p is still going to look excellent. mixing 24p and 30p is doable but not a good idea as the added/or removed frames to settle on a single frame rate can cause a lot of jerkiness.
