In DVDSubEdit, the black bar is solid and covers the video underneath.
Playback inside DVDSubEdit shows it's solid.
After saving the file, playing the video on the PC using MPC_HC or WMP, it's obvious that the black is now slightly transparent enough to show the video beneath the bar.
(I increased the contrast of the second snapshot to make it more obvious).
When played back on TV from a standalone player, the bar is solid again.
Is this transparency effect just the way the PC handles colours.

Edit:I tried VLC for playback and the effect is not present.

  2. I only tested with PowerDVD as I have no interest in doing it myself for playback on a standalone, and the bar was solid/opaque.
