I tried all kinds of parameters using ConvertXtoDVD and the popular AVS Video Converter; but after converting an AVI or MP4 file to a DVD container (VOB) with these two converters, multi-lines always appear on the screen as one long line of text--they seemingly do not recognize the \N command.
I experience no problems using the simple *.srt format, but this format offers no special effects, like colored text, fade, etc. I'd rather change my video converter than Aegisub. I'm wondering what are other folks are using to embed subs with a video converter?

I use Aegisub for DVD subs by saving the file to an .ssa extension, NOT .ass (i.e., Substation Alpha instead of Advanced Substation Alpha), then drop the .ssa file into my DVD project using GUI for DVD Author. It usually, works like a charm, but if further tweaking is required for line breaks, color, etc., I may drop it into Subtitle Workshop, keeping it in .ssa format.
Why use both Aegisub and Subtitle Workshop? Well, the former is very good at synchronizing subs to the audio track in a quick, efficient way, while the latter is better at setting line breaks, color, etc.
You can also set sub font and color settings with GUI for DVD Author.Last edited by filmboss80; 16th Jun 2011 at 15:28.

Thanks. I'll try working with .ssa. For once I won't mind losing my .ass.
