This just happened yesterday. I was able to play all video formats just fine until Xvid4PSP stopped working. My problem right now is that I can't play H264 videos. Other video formats are playable. I used GSpot to see if I have the right codecs installed, and the program confirmed that the needed codecs are installed. But if I attempt to play the H264 videos, my player would stop working. I tried various players, they all gave the same non-responding error. Please take a look at the snap shot I took below: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3517/unleduy.jpg

    Please help me. Thanks.

WMP uses directshow to play theses videos - directshow is a system component that can go bad in it's own right,
    regardless of the actual player.
Have you tried something like VLC, which doesn't use directshow ?

Strangely enough, VLC can play those videos. What can I do so that I can use other players besides VLC to play these H264 files?

VLC brings it's own codecs with it. Simplest solution is FFDShow
