What is the purpose/usefullness of splitting a video when editing in the trim window, and how is it utilized?
I'm not trying to create a split screen in the final product, I'm just trying to get the basic concept.
Thanks in advance.

The trim window of what? What program are you using?
Usually splitting doesn't mean cutting it down the middle or creating a split screen but removing the beginning, the end, or some other part(s), like commercials. -
The trimmer is just a convenient place to make subclips. If you make subclips on the timeline, they will replace that event, and then you have to bring in another instance.
Subclips are static trims, whereas timeline trims are dynamic.
The pur pose of splitting is to make standalone sections you can manipulate singly. Fer instance, You have a wedding video during which Uncle Bob vomited on the carpet, so you can make a split before and after the vomit and remove that section, then splice back the rest.
OR, you can trim that section and stretch out the time to emphasize it and make a fool out of Uncle Bob.Last edited by budwzr; 20th May 2011 at 09:24.

I'm using cyberlink Powerdirector 8. I am in the edit window that allows you to trim/split.
