There's been a lot of discussion about AVI/DivX/Xvid playback on Philips DVP5960, 5140, and other brands/models of players: Does it jerk with packed bitstream? If it does, does mpeg4modifier fix it? What about GMC? What about bitrate - how high; does USB do as well as DVD? What about QPEL?

I've put together some sample files to assist people who want to check out their player's capabilities. There are 5 files:

    PACKED.avi: Packed bitstream with 2 consecutive b-vops.
UNPACKED.avi: The same file unpacked using mpeg4modifier.
    BITRATE.avi: Bitrate starts at 750kbps, goes to 1500, then 3000, then 4500.
GMC_TEST.avi: Starts with no GMC, then GMC with 1 warp point, then with 3.
    QPELTEST.avi: Encoded with QPEL.

Warning to dial-up users: the 5 files above are zipped into one 30MB download.

The file (5960test.zip) is located at:

Thanks to the people at divxtest.com for some of the files I used.

I tested my Philips HTS 3100/12 DVD Home Theatre System. The player is the "same" as DVP 5140/12, and it played all the files without problems...

    Hi, fmussari,

I'm sorry but I can't find the file anymore or I'd re-post it for you; it's been a couple of computers ago since I made it.

    Jagabo's suggestion is good, though.

  7. I found a direct link:

    http://www.mpeg4-players.info/download/DivX.Test.CD.v2/DivXTestCDv2.0.by.bbdoc_forum.surdvd.com.iso

This is different than the old version I had (1.0 maybe?). It's tests more stuff and it includes high def files too.
