I am looking for the best way to trim HDV or DV files losslessly without re-encoding. What are my best software options? Thank you.

i assume they would be separate? you can't mix them and expect no re-encoding, it's not possible. but for DV or HDV individually vegas pro is pretty good at it.

Vegas Pro will trim and join without re-encoding? How about Premiere Pro? I have access to both.

And yes, I did mean separately. Thanks.

only the parts that are cut within a gop should be re-encoded. i only use vegas pro 10 at this point, don't know about pp.

HDV and DV do not have GOPs.
There is no inter-frame compression (only intra-frame), so in effect every frame is a key frame.

no. HDV is compressed mpeg-2 with gops.

Ah yes, you are quite right.
My comment applies only to DV.

Vegas Platinum 10 also smart renders HDV.

Most edit programs will cut DV without recode.

    CS3 didn't. I haven't upgraded since.

    Actually I own a CS4 that I can't access now.
