Which software and burners would best suits my needs for everything disk related such as ripping authoring burning video and data BlueRay disks. Perferably free or low cost
I don't want to start a what is best war or get involved in one, and I do not expect an all in one 1 click solution software.
Also I cannot use any software that calls home or requires connection for online activation. I am not stupid enough to put my work systems online ever!! I am lucky enough to have more than one PC so one has net access none of the others ever do!
Also I have no internet where I will be doing allot of work, so I have to carry the downloads to that location on disk and install there after downloading.
Basically it is this,
I need to buy a BlueRay burner that works good, fast, and low cost.
I need to do data backups of lots of things on my drives, RW disks would be good if they are reliable
I want to watch Blueray movies from my PC, I do not have a setup box or any BR movies yet though.
I don't watch TV so I don't need one other than watching disks, so I will probably play everything from PC and later build a PC for just a media center.
For movie content,
I expect I will need to rip BR disk later for the same following reasons as DVD when I start buying stuff on Blueray.
I want to rip my DVD's and put them on Blueray the way I want them, not the crappy way they are on the DVD's now.
So I need to rip DVD's, I can do that now, But then I need to edit files cutting things out and merging things together, make chapters and be able to choose what episode to watch when I put in the disk, I need to be able to burn these to disks of course once authored.
Several reason I want to do this,
Most of the sets I have for old TV shows like Beverly Hillbillies, Lost in Space Tv show, The Get Smart series, etc... always do the theme when the new episode starts and the credits at the end, I don't need that when I punch PLAY and want to watch 2 hours of shows in a row.
Also some like the Lost in Space do not have a PLAY ALL selection which means I play one then have to manually play the next etc... and also many of the series things I have also play a preview of next week at the end of the show then the next one plays a reminder of what happened last week, I want to cut half or more of that out! I don't need to watch the same things 2 times in a row! I just want to put in the disk, play all and it run like one giant long movie, or choose what episode to start at and then it just keep playing from there.
I want to do the same thing with my DVD movies, If I have movies like Tremors 1 2 3 4 and such I want to put those on one disk if they fit. Or I'll shrink them a little to make them fit.
As for playing movies/shows I often just have them playing all day and only half watch them while I am doing other things, so for me it is a real pain when a 30 minute show ends and you have to manually hit play to start the next episode.
What a kind of drugs do the authors of these DVDs take anyway???
Must be pretty burnt out to not be able to put a PLAY ALL selection on the main menu!
Also I have those good old 40 classic westerns sets, some of the movies are not worth watching, either crappy movies or so degraded they are trashed not worth watching.
Many are still great movies!
Most sets are just tossed together randomly, may be a John Wayne on disk 1, disk 3, disk 6, etc... Same with the ones that was kinda a series.
I need to cut the crappy movies out, rearrange the good movies so a series is together, not spread out on 4 disks randomly!
Seems some of those companies will just grab any public domain movie they can get and toss everything onto a disk in no order at all! Then they put the same 6 movies in 4 different collections also, I only need 1 copy of the movie so I might as well remove the other 3 copies I have from the disks.
Although I am not a DVD newbie, was around here and leaned allot over the years, I have no clue about BlueRay stuff yet. I just know what I want to do like I said above but no idea what software is available or works well.

Before anyone asks, "How hard is it to just punch play on a remote control"
it can be very hard of your working with paints and glue and stuff that is a mess or cooking LOL
Many ways to have gunky hands you don't want to get all over other things like remote controls.
I love Homemade Pizza, I make large ones and several at a time. My hands may be covered for 30 minutes to an hour in dough, flour, meat grease from peperoni ground beef sausage etc..., cheeses, vegetables, and so forth.
A remote control is not an option when I make Pizza or when I am eating that hot fresh baked messy Pizza LOL -
And putting a layer of Saran Wrap around the Remote would be easier to me.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself. -
I would take the lazy way out and put the remote in a zip lock bag.
I never seem to rip/cut Saran Wrap without getting it stuck to itself. -

2) BD RW discs may be reliable enough, but regular BDs would be a lot cheaper and even more reliable. I only use Verbatim BDs and no coasters yet.
3) For watching commercial BDs, you need a BD software player. I use TMT3 and it works fairly well.
If you need to backup BD movies, you will need a decrypter program like AnyDVD HD or DVDFab HD.
Getting rid of the start themes and the ending credits will require editing. With BD formats, the editing is much more complicated compared to DVD formats. With DVDs, I would probably convert the DVDs to MPEG2 with VOB2MPG and use an MPEG editor to trim with. Or you can convert the whole DVD to a different format and edit that. But MPEG editing is easier.
For burning any disc, ImgBurn is my only choice. -
Thanks,
I will look into those first. I think for trimming and cutting on the DVDs I can use software I have now for DVD authoring, but then it does not do BlueRay so for that I need to Author a BD disk of basically DVDs
Thanks for the ideas for Saran wrap and ziplock bag, might actually be useful, however not when I am cooking. My dog would think it was a giant PUPERONI dog treat and eat the remote when I ain't looking
