    Very stupid question,why convert BR to MKV?

    The MKV container allows users to play BR components (m2ts) on their computers and media players with chapters and subtitles thru a USB connected hard disk. All you need is a BR reader, a ripping program, and MKV converting software. A MKV movie can also be reconverted back to BR without much effort.

    There's more to it than that but that is the simple answer.

    1. If no re-encoding is involved, then probably for the convenience and playability of MKV files.

    2. If re-encoding is involved, then probably for reduction of video/audio filesize.
