I have been trying to download a SATA driver from Intel to slipstream into nLite with no success for the last 2 hours, I would really appreciate a member providing a link to the driver I need and advising in detail how I go about slipstreaming it into XP Pro with nLite. I am an experienced PC user who recently purchased a HP dv5-1232TX laptop and my ultimate goal is to downgrade from Vista to XP\2. Once I get this SATA driver into the XP setup, I do not expect to have any problems finding the rest of the drivers I need.
I really dislike Vista and this problem is driving me nuts .... this is the first laptop I have owned, the 1st time I have seen Vista and I don't want to ever see it again.
This is also the 1st Laptop I have owned.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Are you sure it is an Intel Chipset?

only vista and win7 drivers are available from hp for that laptop. you are not going to have much fun if half the devices don't work in xp... win7 might be a much better choice. it probably came with a free upgrade to win7 which is much nicer than vista. i'd never go back to xp after getting used to win7, vista was a different story.

I found these drivers with an internet search which MAY (or may not) work with your laptop.

Vista is terrible but it does support SATA. Since it's a new purchase is there any chance you could beg HP to get you a free upgrade to Windows 7? What the heck is HP doing still shipping Vista anyway? -
Vista is a bit of a resource hog on a laptop compared to W7 and can slow the laptop down. But I would never go back to XP.
W7 works great and is more robust and stable than XP, IMO, and fairly fast on a laptop. And drivers are much easier to find for newer PCs.
Quite a few laptop companies don't have XP drivers available or support downgrades. You may or may not find compatible XP drivers at all.I use W7 on almost all my PCs now. My laptop runs W7 64bit, which is common now on newer laptops.
I also would suggest asking HP if you can get a upgrade to W7. No idea why they would load the older Vista on a newer laptop. -
I didn't explain my problem too well, the laptop I bought is 2 years old, has Vista installed on it and I want to down-grade the OS to XP\2. I need to slipstream a SATA driver into XP via nLite, everything I have tried to date is not enabling me to get the SATA driver into XP.

Hi Darrell,
Thank you for the link, however I have already been there and downloaded all the drivers he recommended, problem is, he believes everyone knows how to get the SATA drivers into XP so by-passes that part. I have downloaded the SATA driver from Intel and it is meant to be put on a floppy and slipstreamed in from there using nLite, the laptop doesn't have a floppy. I have burnt 8 CDs every which way ..but.. still not managing to get the job done. I guess every member reading this thread must be laughing out loud and to be truthful, after seeing your link, so am I. I did find another link that started 4 years ago 94 pages long, I guess I will start at page 1, going to be a very long night.
My thanks to members for taking time out to respond to my cry for help .... H E L P.Cheers from downunder. -
looks like the sata driver is part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager here
32-bit Intel® RST Driver Files for F6 Install
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology 9.6.0.1014 files for 32-bit OS - used to preinstall RAID driver (F6 during Windows* setup)
[edit] sorry too slow you already got it.
might this help?

You keep getting screwed up on the slipstreaming part. You don't put the files on a floppy. You use nlite to slipstream the files onto a new XP installations disc.
Here are some pages with step by step instructions...

I always just put the files on a USB floppy, hit F6 when prompted and follow the onscreen prompts to loa dthem a little later.

Hi All,
I'm not very bright and that's an understatement, I have a desktop in my office which I can connect a floppy, I have been trying to do it on the laptop. Getting a bit long on the tooth, should have come up with that in the 1st instance.
Thank you to all who responded.Cheers from downunder. -

Thank you to all who responded to my call for help.
Conclusion, I now have found all the drivers I needed to downgrade to XP\3 from Vista. I found Vista to be a monster and am now extremely happy with the laptop, everything is working as it should.Cheers from downunder.
