I want to be able to take some DVD's and go through the process of ripping, etc to SVCD's. My problem is that I don't have a DVDROM drive in my computer. I have a APEX600a standalone DVD player w/S-video on it. Can I use this connection with a capture card to get the DVD on to my hard drive or do I have to buy a DVD drive? Anybody, help???

You can do this but you will need to have some way of disabling macrovision copy protection. Some DVD players allow you to turn it off. Some capture cards can have the detection disabled. Some capture cards just work fine even with it there but it can cause you grief.
Basically, you're going to have to do a bit of research first. With the right gear, it's fine, but if you don't have that, it's probably cheaper to buy a new DVD drive and know that'll work.
Good Luck.

You can get a decent DVD drive for under $50. Honestly, don't even bother trying to do it the way you mentioned - its just not worth the hassle.
