I had purchased a Toshiba and when I tried several of my backup dvds, it made a loud noise as if something wasn't right. It played my original dvds fine. I have returned it and now would like some help finding one that is compatible with backup dvds. Preferably just over $100.00 or under that streams Netflix and connects wirelessly. Anyone know of the Samsung BD-1600? Reliability?

What format are your "backup DVDs"?

If these are "AVCHD" DVDR discs @17-25 Mbps, they require the disc to spin ~3x (vs 1x for DVD/BD/BE) which is probably the source of your noise. For quiet, use BR media.

They're just standard backups that I've made from DVD Shrink and IMGBurn. Nothing special.

Hmm, that doesn't explain the noise.

Take your discs and a stethoscope to a store and listen for noise.

The backups were on Verbatims, the good ones. I think it had to be the backups for some weird reason. I also burn them at the lowest speed. No more Toshiba players for me.

My Sony BDP-BX37 (aka BDP-S370/380) Blu-Ray player seems quiet with DVDR but I have other fans in the room.
