Just going through my captured DV hard drives. Would like to put on my media server so I would like to compress. So I thought I would use X264 via staxrip at CRF 18. So that is the easy part, but should I deinterlace my NTSC DV stuff? Or is there another way to do this. I would like to end up with MKV and AC3 of 192. StaxRip can do this in one-click, but I guess I need to know if deinterlacing is necessary. I tried it without a deinterlace, but it looked poor on my LCD tv thanks

sounds like you already know the answer. i'd use mediacoder and select yadif to de-interlace with but that only one of many choices.
