Not sure if this is the right board for this or not, if not please point me to the right one.
I want to get a media server, where I can direct any media (mostly movies) from any pc in my home LAN to the tv the media center is connected to. I'm thinking something like the Dlink DSM-750 or something like that.
I am thinking that I'll probably go wired, but the wireless option would be ok, since I can play a vob or mpeg file (reasonably well) that resides on a wired pc on my network on my wireless laptop, it theoretically should work - right? In any case I would probable wire it into my LAN anyway, since that is easy enough to do.
What I am wondering, should I try and find an appliance with gigabit capability? I have a gigabit switch and network cards, (although my router/gateway is not gigabit) Is gigabit neccesary or advantageous?
Lastly, Besides the Dlink offerings, any other recommendations?
