  1. Hi all,

I have recovered three mp4 files from my N95 cell phone (don't really know how they were removed) thing is, I am not able to play them with any player.

I really appreciate your help in let me know if there is anything I can do in order to try recovering the files, I checked the ASCII code and headers seems to be fine, but then I can't really understand where the mp4 ends, and if there is anything wrong that could be fixed.

If any of you could help me, I am glad, this are some "special" emocional videos I could pay to recover.

Mp4 files were uploaded to below URLs

    http://www.ar7.com.ar/ar7/01022011065.mp4

Thank you very much to anyone!!!

  4. Hi Roberto,

I tried to repair your 01022011065.mp4 file, unfortunately without success. Important parts of the informational moov atom are missing. There was some kind of a gap between the mdat and the moov atom with 0xEFA6 bytes size. After locating the moov atom I tried loading it and I succeeded with the moov , trak , tkhd , mdia , mdhd , hdlr , minf , vmhd , dinf , dref , stbl , stsd with video descriptor and stts atoms. The corruption starts at the first trak at this stts atom at sample 1919, which has sample duration 0. And all the samples to the end have zero duration. So here we’re missing the the stsc – Sample To Chunk atom, stsz - Sample Size Atom and stco – Chunk Offset Atom. These three are vital, describing the location of the frames in the mdat atom.

From the video descriptor it can be seen that it is MPEG4 video with 640 x 480 resolution.

The Next Track ID value is set to some big number so I cannot tell how many tracks there are in the original file. Extracting the mdat atom to separate file, would result in to a MP4 video elementary stream, but unfortunately it wasn’t recognized by the stream readers that I have. So it seems that there was another track(s) there, possibly audio or/and timecode, mixed with the MP4V video. This means that the elementary streams are mixed inside the mdat atom and in order to extract it you have to go and manually run through the hex and recognize the video frames and extract them one by one.

Sorry, but I couldn’t solve this without the rest of the moov atom.
