  1. Hi, I hope I am posting this in the correct place!

Having had a couple of disks in my collection of about 50+ become unplayable, I decided to back them up on an external Hard Drive. They have all been recorded on my Lite-on 5045 Recorder, are all Traxdata DVD-R and they have been finalised.

Trying Ashampoo Burning Studio 9. Soon after inserting DVD, it says 'Encountered a problem and needs to close'. Trying the same thing with Nero Express Express Essentials and it just freezes.

I also tried DVD Shrink 3.2 and when I click to open the Disk, it says 'Cannot continue - Invalid DVD navigation Structure'

I have tried another DVD-R that wasn't recorded with my Lite-on and that works fine, so I assume the problem is maybe something to do with the way it is finalising the disks. Although they do all play ok on my PC using Windows Media Player.

I would much appreciate any help or suggestions as to what else I can try.

    Thanks,

    Peter

Hello Peter, welcome to the forums. You might try ripping the dvds to iso using dvddecrypter. If that fails you might try navigating to the dvd using windows explorer and dragging the VIDEO_TS folder directly to your computer. If you don't find a VIDEO_TS folder please describe what you do see.

  3. Shrink has problems with opening some dvd recorder made discs.

Run fixvts first on the dvd files on your hard drive, then shrink should work.

  4. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I will try dvd decrypter. I did manage earlier to copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to my hard drive, but then when I burnt a copy to another DVD, it would play on PC but not on my Lite-on recorder, which is what I really need. Anyway will try other suggestions and post back.

  5. Discs made on a set top recorder have a VIDEO_RM folder. You need this folder in addition to the VIDEO_TS folder.

  6. Hi,

Many thanks lowellriggsiam. The DVD Decrypter did the trick........... After I remembered to change the setting to ISO!

Thanks also qpskfec. I did try adding the RM folder with the TS one, but then wasn't sure how to burn it to disk. I could only seem to burn as a data disk with Ashampoo. My set top recorder wouldn't recognise it.
