Conversion suddenly says "done" without error - while it is not

both had this with total video converter and xilisoft ultimate video converter.
I downloaded 2 mkv files and trying to make them PS3 HD mp4.
no luck, after 60% converting or so it suddenly says "DONE", while it clearly is not. it leaves me with half a movie converted :/

how do i solve this.

Try converting the material using handbreak and see if they complete that way. If the program believes it is complete the file(s) likely have a bad index.

Regarding the question: it may be possible to remux the video into an MP4 container with YAMB.
