I want one of those 3d camcorders but it produces video that is 60p I know that blu ray is 24p so my question is if I get a new cam would I be able to put it onto blu ray(playable by PS3 and others) without conversion?

1280x720p60 - yes
1920x1080p60 - no
There may be other ways to solve the problem - what exact format does the camcorder write to file?
Cheers,
David. -
PS3 is fine for 1920x1080 60p
For everything else
1080i (1920x1080 HD, 50i, 60i)
1080p (1920x1080 HD, 24p)
720p (1280x720, 50p, 60p, 24p) -
I would need one that is 1920x1080
I have a cam that does this(@ 24fps) but am looking to get a new one that has better low light performance.
I would really be frustrated if I got a cam and authoring software prohibbited me from making a BR @ 60p I do not wish to rencode my footage I want it to be perfect.
1080 / 60p : MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (original format)
HA / HG / HX / HE : MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD standard compliant) / JPEG -
It's not the authoring software. 1080p60 is not part of the BluRay standard. If you put it on a disc normal BluRay players will not play it!

So I have to wait untill a new cam comes out that will do 1920x1080 @24fps
I think that I will have to wait a very long time -
There are many cams that do 1920x1080 @24 or 23.976 to be more precise.
You request for 3D is the most confusing. If you record 3D mode on say the Panasonic or JVC consumer camcorders, there is no affordable software to edit it yet. It will play from the camcorder to specific 3D TV sets.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

That makes me sad - just like hearing, "I wish quad (aka surround sound) would go away." Or if I had heard, "I wish color tv/film would go away." Or, "I wish talkies (film with sound)...", or, "I wish moving pictures...".
And don't kid yourself - it is well documented that ALL of these technologies had their false starts and naysayers. And think of all the good stuff of each that has come out since that would have been missed!
OP: you want a (single) cam that is 3D and is 24p? or a pair of cams?
There's plenty to choose in the latter category.
In the former, the Panasonic HDC-SDT750K is 1080p60, the AG-3DA1 IS 1080p24, and the Fuji Finepix-W3 is 720p24. And more to come...

Check out the JVC GY-HD100U/HM100U ($2795) for prosumer 23.976p at 35Mb/s MPeg2 (similar to XDCAM). Above thet you have the Sony PMW-Ex1R ($6,300) family.

At CES, JVC showed a true dual sensor 3D consumer camcorder. The GS-TD1 shoots side by side 3D or 2D. Uses AVCHD format.

The HM100U will shoot 23.976p and telecines it to 29.97i.
You need to inverse telecine before importing to a 23.976p timeline.
The same is true for HDV or AVCHD camcorders when running in "24p" mode.
As for the 3D camera being huge, it needs to be as big as your head for lens separation or there is no 3D.Last edited by edDV; 11th Jan 2011 at 17:12.

My cam does not require inverse telecine(it outputs 23.9fps) and does not need any reencoding to go on a blu-ray video disc or
AVCHD disc. I want something similar- no reencoding whatsoever -
Like I said, Panasonic's AG-3DA1 records 1080p24 while shooting 3D. It is a lower-end pro camera, however. If you want all that PLUS consumer price point and size, you'll have to wait another year...

What is your current camcorder?
With the HM100u you can drop the camera file to the timeline of any of the serious editors*, or you can re-wrap it to m2ts and add to a Blu-Ray AVCHD or BD file structure with no re-encoding.
*XDCAM mp4 wrapper to AVID, Edius, Premiere, Vegas, etc. or the camera can be set to output Quicktime mov for Final Cut Pro. Vegas will smart edit with no recodes except for transitions, etc.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Did you miss the other $950 GZ-HM960/860? Does the side by side within 1920x1080.

I thought that would take it out of the running for the OP. There are lots of not-quite-1080p options. You can even get a (high quality) S-B-S dual lens adapter now.
Onceler2,
Personally, I think it makes more sense to walk before you run. How familiar are you with working with 3D?
