I have been offered a JVC HRJ-825 VCR in unmarked and fully working condition. It is £5 (around $8) and I can call over later to see it and purchace if I want. I have no idea about this VCR so any owner info appreciated. Does it have TBC or other enhancers?

    Thanks, Ian

"However, there is a significant quality loss when copying recordings on tape, using my JVC HR-825 VCR, which is understandable, given that it is not a Super VHS machine."

So it seems it is a multi standard (but not converting ) vcr, nothing special if my memory of a similiar model is anything to go by, if you need a big standard vcr and the ntsc/pal playback (if it does) is useful to you, that's cheap.

The UK JVC's of that era were not all that reliable.

Thanks. Does not sound that exciting but I will have a look - for a fiver it may be worth a punt. I have heard before about the JVC's being iffy on the longevity front.

I have it now - and it looks very nice (jog ring, plenty of features and nice look) and am servicing it ready for use. The pinch roller had some 'shine' and I have just skimmed it on the diamond polisher. The internals look rather flimsy though - but if it gives outstanding performance I will post back. However, as it has a 'bass boost' button and record level meters but no method to set them I don't feel that optomistic.
